Superoxide Dismutase Tablet

Product Composition

Superoxide dismutase is an enzyme that alternately catalyzes the dismutation (or partitioning) of the superoxide (O2-) radical into ordinary molecular oxygen (O2) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Superoxide is produced as a by-product of oxygen metabolism and, if not regulated, causes many types of cell damage. Hydrogen peroxide is also damaging and is degraded by other enzymes such as catalase. Thus, SOD is an important antioxidant defence in nearly all living cells exposed to oxygen.

Indications:

⇒ Promotes the production of the body's own, natural antioxidants
⇒ Useful in pain and swelling (inflammation)
⇒ Supports skin health against photo-oxidative stress
⇒ Supports healthy immune function
⇒ Helps reduce lactic acid buildup in humans under physical stress
⇒ Supports the health of the carotid artery intima and media layers
⇒ Supports cardiovascular health
⇒ Protects against markers of oxidative stress to white blood cells, during hyperbaric oxygen use
⇒ Protects against DNA strand breaks
⇒ Supports red blood cells against oxidative stress

Mechanism of ACtion:

Superoxide dismutase works by catalyzing the breakdown of superoxide radicals into oxygen and hydrogen. Superoxide radicals are toxic to the living cells in your body. Superoxide dismutase also helps your body to break down oxygen molecules that can damage your cells and tissues. Each cell of the body has a personalized system for removing toxic matter. The key "cleansing tool" used for this process is the cell's network of enzymes and enzyme systems. These enzymes work to break down toxic materials and flush them out of the cell. When there are more toxins than a cell's enzymes can handle, or when there aren't enough enzymes in the first place, cells are at risk to become cancer cells. This SOD has a major power in a cell's detox system and scavenges for and dismantles one of the body's most deadly free radical toxins. Superoxide is a reactive particle that bounces around a cell. It damages everything it comes in contact with. This might seem surprising, but the superoxide toxin is actually produced by cells themselves, as a by-product of their metabolic process to produce energy.

Through a series of enzymatic reactions, cells strip away electrons in order to create energy. During the process, electrons attach to oxygen molecules and thereby create the toxic chemical, superoxide. This process of creating energy creates a handful of other toxic radicals too, like hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals. When these toxic radicals are produced, the body's natural supply of cell enzymes like SOD acts to shield the cell and quickly eliminate the toxins before they harm the cells. Superoxide dismutase, for instance, functions solely to attack superoxide and break it up into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen.
